Salary-Cutting TV Station Slapped with Charges

A Maine television station that cut salaries by as much as 10 percent in February is now facing unfair labor practice charges.
Manchester, Maine, Local 1837 filed the charges against Portland’s WGME-TV, Channel 13.
The local—representing nearly 50 behind-the-scenes producers and technicians—accuses station owner Sinclair Broadcast Group of refusing to bargain in good faith. Sinclair declared an impasse in contract negotiations Feb. 17 and imposed the terms of its final offer, which included the pay cuts.
