Hill: Jobs Are No. 1 Priority for Florida’s Citizens

January 7, 2009

Florida has been hit especially hard by the recession, shedding the highest number of jobs across the country – nearly 17,000 – last November, making it one of the worst-hit states in the nation.

But Florida public officials have a chance to turn things around.

IBEW International President Edwin D. Hill is strongly advocating for the creation of 10,000 new jobs in the state via one of Florida’s largest utility providers. Pres. Hill outlines the path to recovery in a pointed op-ed published Wednesday, Jan. 6 in the Tallahassee Democrat.

“Until we can do better than having nearly one in 10 Americans out of work, every other problem – health care, energy or the financial system – takes a back seat,” writes Pres. Hill.

The Sunshine State has been suffering a drought of unemployment with more than 11 percent of its work force sidelined – well above the national average.
