Working Families Unite to Hold Lawmakers Accountable

At a time when legislators could be coming together to create jobs and help maintain the middle class, many politicians have been busy doing just the opposite.

From Wisconsin to Ohio and beyond, anti-worker lawmakers continue to widen the fault line on which so many working families find themselves. Legislators – including state executives and governors – have pushed bills to slash good jobs, reduce wages, make workplaces less safe, hurt Medicare and erode retirement savings.

Working families aren’t taking it lying down. Next month, when members of Congress are on recess back in their home districts and many state legislatures will be out of session, a broad patchwork of grassroots activists will hold them accountable for their destructive policies.

Teachers, firefighters, nurses, construction workers, seniors and more will host petition signings, rallies and other actions to tell their elected representatives to do what matters most: fix our economy.

“Workers across the nation need to come together,” said IBEW International President Edwin D. Hill:

We need to tell our lawmakers loudly and clearly that we’re not going to stand for the same old political games. It’s time to right this ship, get people back to work and strengthen families who are hurting.
