On Labor Day, Watch Sportsmen Journey into the Wild
August 26, 2011
Robin DeHaven has proven his mettle as a true patriot and hero. He served two tours of duty in Iraq and then bravely rescued five people from an Austin, Texas, IRS building after it was struck by a plane last year. For his courage and service, the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades apprentice glazier and avid outdoorsman got an unexpected but fitting opportunity – the chance to go on the hunt of his dreams. The Union Sportsmen’s Alliance, teaming the Sportsman Channel, invited DeHaven on a once-in-a-lifetime elk hunt in Colorado, where the marksman took down a massive bull elk from 240 yards away. DeHaven’s adventure was featured on the channel’s “Brotherhood Outdoors” series and will be rebroadcast as part of the show’s marathon Sept. 5 Labor Day “Salute to the American Worker.” The channel is airing eight episodes in four hours featuring various union members embarking on epic expeditions, from bow hunting in vast Arizona woods to reeling in fast-moving stripers in Long Island, N.Y.’s Montauk Point State Park. Between episodes, show host Tom Ackerman and AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka will join viewers to highlight the American workers and companies who make celebrated outdoor products right here in the U.S. Tune into the Sportsman Channel starting at 1 p.m. EST. and visit Brotherhood Outdoors to see video of upcoming episodes. And visit the USA Facebook page for more details and to guess which companies will be featured during the marathon for a chance to win a $50 gift certificate to Cabela’s.
